The 5 vanilla-cocoa puppies

The five puppies were born from a stray shepherd mix mom, at a village near Drama. This village is high in the mountains. There are many farms and shepherds keep dogs to guard the sheep. Unfortunately, they don’t neuter the females. At every birth, they keep one or two puppies and they abandon the rest to die from hunger, get eaten by the wolves or killed by male adult dogs.

This family was lucky, because the mother gave birth near a volunteer’s house. From the beginning she took care of the puppies, carried them to a safer area inside abandoned old house. They got treatment for parasites and 2 vaccinations. As they grew up, the situation was getting all the more dangerous. They started following their mom outside the safe perimeter, always in danger of getting killed by a car and other dangers.

So we had to carry them in foster care although the team was already overwhelmed by the great number of rescued dogs.
